Dropzone Update - 2009/01/29 16:43
We’d like to start out by wishing everyone a Happy New Year. We wish you all the best in 2009 and the years to come!
We’re sad to say that this will be the final update of The St. Louis Skydiving Center. 2008 was a year full of ups and downs and we had hoped to see the dropzone continue on into a wonderful 2009, but it looks as though circumstances will prevent that. As some of you know, with Paul’s new career keeping him busy full-time, we had started negotiating the sale of the DZ last year. Although we would have loved to continue to run the DZ as well, it was simply too much responsibility for one person to bear. By September, we had finalized the sale when the economy took a rapid decline. The buyers re-assessed the situation and decided, rightfully so, that this was not the best time to be getting into the dropzone business.
Since then, we have looked at every possibility to try and keep the DZ open. Unfortunately, with the economy continuing into a recession, we can’t see any economically viable way to continue operating. So with that, we regret to say that The St. Louis Skydiving Center will not be reopening for the 2009 season.
We would like to say that the past few years have been some of the greatest years of our lives. It has truly been our privilege to meet and jump with every one of you! Over the years we heard so many people comment on how great an atmosphere the dropzone has and that is due entirely to all of you!
Over the next few days, we will be e-mailing out account balances to anyone who has money remaining on their accounts. If you would like a refund, please reply back with where you would like a check mailed to. We do ask that you bear with us during this process. The dropzone’s debts far exceed its assets, so we will be paying off accounts through both the sale of DZ assets as well as our own personal assets and income. For those of you with larger balances, it may be necessary to pay it off in installments.
Thank you all for your understanding and, most importantly, thank you for the great memories!
Blue Skies,
Paul & Joanna
