Weekend Recap 8/9/08 - 2008/08/11 07:21 Simply put there are not words that can describe the time we had in BG this weekend. The drop zone was so full of energy and excitement that it just about made you want to jump up and down, no pun intended. The weekend started Friday with tandems and fun jumpers out for an early weekend fix.

Friday faded and as it does week after week Saturday welcomes us with blue skies the next day. This very special Saturday was the beautiful Tracey Meade’s (aka Woman or Mrs. Woohoo) birthday! Birthday’s aside we had a full house Saturday and wasted no time getting loads up.

The ever so fabulous Calvin and his Goon Squad graced us with their presence and organized some pretty fabulous skydives as always! Thank you so much Cal for letting me play with you all day – it was your pleasure… Oh… I mean MY pleasure! That 4 point 8 way rocked my world – thank you Paul for letting me bump you so I could take your slot!

There were several old friends out at the hanger this weekend, it made the place feel so warm and fuzzy! Colleen, Banks, Scott, Bob, Gail, Mike, Steve, Chris just to name a few. We always love having our family out to play and hope we see you again before too much time passes.

I struck a bit of luck Saturday, Banks left and Paul was busy and I got to enjoy not one but two skydives with the girl whose smile and laugh light up anyone’s day – Colleen! I was so honored to fill in as her do-si-do partner and thrilled when I learned I still got the bonus point kiss pass at 6K.

Robert was back out this weekend as our newest Tandem Instructor at BG. I love seeing that funky jumpsuit on the plane Robert – we look forward to having you as a part of our growing family!

Loretta was back out with us this weekend – I think we have a plan in motion to keep her! She started the tandem progression with Brian and seems to really be enjoying herself. She was seen later in the weekend jumping with Paul – this girls smart – making her way through all the instructors!

Saturday wound down with the graduation of a new AFF student in BG. Congrats to John for knocking out his AFF and being cleared for solo and coach jumps! There is a lot of “fresh meat” at the drop zone lately – calling all coaches – come and get em before they become sky gods and start passing us all in jump numbers!

My Dad made it out for the ENTIRE weekend! I think people might actually start calling him Eric instead of Ashley’s Dad if he comes out a few more times. He has even got so good that he invited me to do a 5 way with him. Thanks for the jumps Dad!

The day came to an end as with a beautiful sunset as seen from a very chilly high altitude hop and pop. It was so peaceful until I realized that the rest of the jumpers were on the ground celebrating Tracey’s birthday with copious amounts of adult beverages and I quickly made my way down for margarita’s and TJ’s wonderful brats!

At some point Saturday night turned into Sunday morning and I swear it felt like minutes after my head it the pillow there were tandems signing paperwork! The day was packed from 9am on and boy did it feel good.

There were several families out this weekend, it appears August is a pretty darn good month to make a skydive! Tom brought out his daughter and made his second tandem skydive with us in the past few weeks. I’m pretty sure that he was successful at getting Kristine hooked and will now have the “father daughter time” excuse to go spend a weekend skydive – smart thinking brother!

Speaking of families – we have a lot of new BG family members making their way through the ranks. As I mentioned John became our newest AFF graduate – and we also have Lance who was out making his first solo jumps – Amanda and TJ who we just love having out every weekend and are so close to getting their A license and Mike came out for his 2nd AFF Sunday! Great to see you Mike – although I’m still a little bitter that you didn’t invite me along to video this time I’m glad to see you out making your way through AFF.

Jeffey had an exciting day Sunday!! Jump 698 Jeffey had his first reserve ride – BEER! He opened what appeared to be a perfectly good main and looked at his riser to find that the link holding his lines to his rear riser had come undone and was stretched out and the lines were just barely hanging on the edge. Good way to be heads up Meade Man, way to put all that training into action and come down safe under that pretty pink reserve! Big thanks to our friends over at the prison for retrieving Jeffey’s main and freebag!

Just when Jeffey thought he was done playing for the weekend we caught him 5 miles out and reeled him back in to make another jump! Jenny and Grey were out to celebrate Jenny’s birthday and they were a riot! I’m sure most of you will agree that every once in a while you get a tandem that comes along and reminds you why we love sharing our sport with the world. Jenny and Grey were those tandems – they had so much fun that we were all just feeding off their energy. I’m pretty sure they will be celebrating all birthdays, anniversaries, and major holidays with skydives from here on out. WOO HOO!

We have a ton of warm weather weekends left and I hope we continue to see our friends and family out for a good time. Thank you to a wonderful staff who have been working not only in the air but on the ground to make our DZ such a wonderful place. Suzette, Lenny, Kerry, and all the rest of you make sure you get out next weekend - we missed you guys! Only 4 more days to go until the weekend!
