Re:weekend recap 8/23/08 - 2008/08/26 22:56
You got to love 3 day weekends out at the drop zone! We had an awesome group of fun jumpers out on Friday to start the weekend off right.

Dave Ternes made a guest appearance this weekened and that Brian Bond is starting to be more and more of a regular. You men and your RW sure are spoiling me. Any who, Minh, Kerry, Colleen and Eric were out for the early weekend fun and Gary was seen testing out his new camera helmet. Don’t worry Gary, you’ll get used to hanging on to the side of that Beech in no time, if I can do it you can do it!

Loretta graced us with her precense again this weekend – she’s quickly making her way through the AFF program and made 2 more jumps with Joe Jackson on Friday. You go girl! Hurry up and make your way through AFF so you can I can do some coach jumps. Well, if none of the other coaches beat me to ya….

The Woo Hoo’s filtered in just in time to make the sunset load, you could see the determination on their faces as they pulled up to the hanger! It appears that Cory has no idea what it means to plan a slot specific 6 way. Not once but TWICE the guy stole someone else’s slot on the sunset load. Paul – I think he owes you and me both beer for that one. We also found out when people are not in the right slot it confuses Suzette and she starts doing 360s! Regardless we turned a few points and had one heck of a time doing it…

With all the rain moving in and out and in and back out on Saturday we had some down time… We sure are getting spoiled lately. Mark Cook made his delicious biscuits and gravy for lunch and that majority of us were just getting content with laying down for an afternoon nap when the skies cleared and we were jumping again!

Just a reminder on these low wind days… it takes the tetrahedron a good 4 or 5 mph push to move around but the wind sock will dance around with less then a mph of wind. Your best indicator for landing is going to be the big smiley face on the tetrahedron, but we realize on no wind days this could be a bit harder to understand. Any who, rule of thumb is you follow the pattern that the first person down sets. Now, Mark and Paul, don’t go setting any crazy landing patterns, you got it?? Oh, and as always, we follow a left hand landing pattern….

Calvin drug out a goon squad of a different kind this weekend. Cal corrupted two of his friends and showed them the power of 120mph freefall. Word on the street is that Cal needs some elves for his Christmas skydiving picture and I’m thinking he’s training these gents to be his lucky little helpers! Hey Cal – thanks for the butt shot on exit – love ya sweet cheeks!

Happy Belated Anniversary to Kevin and his wife… was it Loraine? Sorry Kevin, I met her for just a second and then you were sweeping her off to do anniversary things. Regardless, it was nice to meet you better half – bring her out sometime!

Bag had a gang of people with him on Saturday. Thanks for letting me jump with you and Bert Bag, I have to say I never thought you would flick me off so much in one skydive. And the fact that your nephew was able to communicate to me that he wanted me to flash him in freefall, well, I’m still laughing about that one. And thanks for letting the wife off of house work duty for a while to come visit us – it’s about time someone showed up to keep you inline and give the rest of us a break…

Big thank you to Mark for landing that tandem at the far end of the field to save me from running ˝ a mile to get a good landing on video!! You rock Mark!

As if the lunch of biscuits and gravy wasn’t enough, grill master TJ cooked up one heck of a dinner! Ribs, pork tenderloin, corn on the cob, pasta salads, fruits, red potatoes, you name it and we ate it! I don’t think I’ve had a meal like that in years. TJ has definitely earned his way into the Bowling Green family!

In an attempt to show all the wuffos how dangerous the ground can be Joe broke out his motor scooter. That thing was just plain scary if you ask me! The kids all liked it, especially Mark and Paul. That thing went all night long!

Sunday we had a bit of a lighter day scheduled. Ms. Julie taught a pretty good ground school from what I’m told. She also let me steal her to give me a quick hair cut! I tell ya, we have jacks-of-all-trades at the DZ!

Since I missed last weekends update I’m going to go ahead and throw in a little tribute to our buddy Guillermo. Nimo – one of our favorite waiters at the tasty Dos Primos Mexican restaurant – finally came out to do a tandem. I’m after the little waiter with the cool mustache next!

We have a new BG jumper – Julie – who came to us via Lance and his never ending talk of skydiving at work. Julie is getting back into the sport after a couple years and bringing her love of freeflying to the sky over BG. Welcome to the family Julie!

Kerry FINALLY made his 200th jump – WOO HOO Kerry!!! Thanks for letting me steal that slot right next to you on your 100th and your 200th. It’s a tradition now, come on 300!

We have also been lucky enough to have some FFX jumpers visit us… although I think in all actuality they are coming for the Beech…. It’s so wonderful to see you guys out flying over BG – we love you all!

As I said, Sunday was a light day… Seems most of the DZ’s staff is focused on this next weeks play date in Iowa. Everyone have fun and be safe at Couch Freaks and we will see you when you get back!!

Later Gators….
