Weekend Recap 9/21/08 - 2008/09/23 12:21
Another full weekend of Beech loads, soft landings and hyped up tandems! Brian Bond so graciously brought out his own busload on Friday. Rumor has it Brian was trying to get some popularity around the office by showing his super cool skydiver side. I think it worked!

One of Brian’s brave co-workers, Chelsea, came out not only to make her first skydive, but to make her first plane ride as well! I think it’s safe to say she loved the whole thing! She let out one minor blood-curdling scream at the door and then she was quickly ditching her first airplane ride for her first skydive. You rock girl!

The tandems didn’t slow down Saturday either – load after load we had full staff on board. We got so busy that PAUL even had to do working jumps!

Saturday brought us two more newly licensed skydivers in BG. Congrats to Dustin ‘DITCH’ Smith for getting in that very stable hop and pop as a final check for his license. And who could forget – the ever so wonderful Amanda also got her A license this last weekend! WOO HOO!!

We had a good number of fun jumpers out this weekend… Gary, Eric, Cal-Mo-Dee, Steve, Lance, Julie, and Brad came out for jump # 28, woo hoo!

Not only did Amanda get that A license she’s been working so hard to get, but she also was kind enough to share her parents with us this weekend! Debbie, Robert, you guys ROCK. I’m so glad we were able to adopt you guys into our little family! We expect to see you guys out again very soon! Big thanks to Steve Anderson and our new family members Deb and Rob for cooking up some awesome food Saturday night! Deer, fish, home made potato chips, fried green tomatoes… We truly are spoiled aren’t we!?

We had some visiting fun jumpers on Sunday… Eric (EJ) graced us with his presence… For some reason him and Tony decided that high altitude hop and pops were a good idea with a ground temp of about 60. Buuurrrr. And lest I forget – the very sweet Michelle made her way over from the Taylorville area to make an AFF with Jeffy and John Wall. Even Sean broke away from school for a day at the DZ! Looking forward to seeing you out again soon guys!

As most of us know Mark Cook loves those little bitty canopies…. Well, apparently he ticked his off at some point because she spun up on him this weekend and he enjoyed a nice relaxing reserve ride back to the DZ. His main landed about 85 feet up in a tree. Not to fear – with the help of John’s climbing equipment and Cory’s determination she was rescued Sunday afternoon. Now I just have to find something else to do with that chainsaw….

We had 8 AFF students Sunday morning – all ready to learn and ready to fly. Cecil, who made 30 some odd military jumps back in the 1950’s had a rock solid AFF dive that I was lucky enough to enjoy for my own viewing pleasure. And there was also Tammy, Kristen and Matt who all stayed through the long day to make that jump they’d been waiting all day for.

Loretta got in yet another AFF this weekend as well – she’s in the double digits now – 10 jumps and just getting started – WOO HOO!!!

There were few fun jumps by staff this weekend – mainly because we were all racing around working load after load. What a group we have, it wouldn’t have been possible to get through the weekend without the tremendous teamwork we have in BG. What a family!

Since I have your attention – why not through in a quick little blurb about safety? A couple little things we all know – but are worth repeating from time to time… - We often have 15 to 20 canopies in the air at any time. ALWAYS make sure you are keeping an eye out for those around you. Look beside you before you turn, look below you, and even watch above you. Those of us with the smaller ‘napkins’ should especially keep this in mind – don’t set yourself up on final approach running the risk of overtaking another jumper’s path. - Check your fellow jumpers gear when you are sitting on the plane on that not so long ride to altitude. An extra pair of eyes checking the routing of a chest strap never hurt anyone! - CHECK YOUR SPOT!

All in all a great weekend once again… Not a lot of fun jumper pictures because, well, we were too busy working! If you got some pics feel free to post them up. Thanks to everyone for another fun, and SAFE weekend. See you guys in a few more days!
XOXO Ashes
